Photo Fence Summer 2020 | Cartersville through the years is brought to the public by the Cartersville Downtown Development Authority, Bartow History Museum and Lara J Designs.
The 20 images in this Photo Fence exhibition come from the Bartow History Museum archives and from private and public collections. Each of the images shows a view of Downtown Cartersville from different times in the past, in beautiful contrast to the current view from the location where it hangs on the railroad fence. The exhibition was installed in August 2020.
From the introductory panel:
Incorporated in 1850, Cartersville has always been a train town. The fact that the tracks run through the center of downtown reflects the key role the train has played in the local economy. As a result, the downtown district that grew around the train tracks naturally evolved into the social and commercial heart of the city, which it remains to this day. Many of the historic buildings you see around you represent over a century, or more, of Cartersville’s history. They are, now, the physical embodiment of that history; just as they were, then, the setting in which it originally took place. The goal of this project is to share a glimpse of that history and to show how Cartersville has continued throughout the years. We hope you enjoy these old pictures as much as we do!
